Under 15 Boys (3) vs Lions FC (3)

Well the morning had a chilly start to it, but once the boys started playing it got warmer. It was a slow start to the game with neither team scoring until nearly twenty minutes into the game.  The Lions scored first but we hit back quickly with Dylan scoring the first goal.  The boys spirits were flying high, when Jackson managed to score next, then all of a sudden our boys scored again with a goal to Alex B.  We were leading 3:2 at half time and our boys were pumped and headed out to the second half confident of winning.  Unfortunately we missed a few golden opportunities and kept the pressure on till late in the game when the Lions managed to sneak in a goal and the result ending up being a draw. Our boys held their heads up high to come away with a draw.  Both teams knew that each team will be their in the finals, but it will depend on their paths as to where they end up on the ladder. Luckily, we still have a make up game to play.

Under 15 Girls (2) vs Ipswich Knights (1)

Our U15 girls took out their first win of the season against a very pushy and vocal Ipswich Knights team!

13501700 676317265852847 1940933379324225732 nFrom kick off the girls were all over the Knights, determined to erase the memory of our last encounter which finished 5-0 to Ipswich. The Sirens were unlucky not to score early on and expert defending kept the Knights away from Natalie in goals. As the half wore on, Ipswich continue to push and started shooting from distance. A classy shot from the 18yard box into the side netting gave the visitors the lead going into half time.

Ipswich started the second half strong and immediately put the girls under pressure back in their own half. A few quick counter attacks kept the girls spirit alive and within minutes, Jess struck gold with a left foot shot after winning the ball in front of goal.

After equalising the score, the Sires fended off waves and waves of Ipswich attacking play. The Sirens kept the scoreline tied defending numerous free kicks and corners (and everything Ipswich could throw at them). Our desire to win and never give up attitude was rewarded in the final minutes, when Jaqui pumped the ball long to our forwards who played a through ball for Jess. Without any hesitation, Jess slotted the ball past the keeper far post and for the first time this season the girls were ahead 2-1!

The final whistle blew followed by lots of cheering, screaming, jumping, hugs, smiles and pure excitement!!

Absolute proof that working hard, playing as a team and being determined is what it takes to get the 3 points.

Watch out UQFC - the Sirens are ready and have a win in their stride!
